Stakeholders

People are central to business. Having your staff aware of a business continuity plan creates confidence in your organisation’s capabilities against disorder and provides a sense of inclusion to your organisation’s members. If you’re the business leader or owner, there may be days when you’re unable to provide any form of direction for your staff.
A Business Continuity Plan (BCP) should provide staff with instructions on what to do.

The form

On the template here, fill out the form. You could include a general description to provide more clarity on what each is doing.

Establishing harmony

Remember to include conditions of confidentiality; keep everyone on the same page, copy and hand out the BCP among your members . This achieves two objectives.

  1. By creating a backup (always ensure this is the approved, latest version and track it by including revision date and version number) of the BCP, you reduce the risk of losing the plan when things get chaotic.
  2. Organization members need to have clarity on what objectives are needed to be accomplished by who and when. Especially if they are required to do something without needing your oversight.

For small businesses

This may seem impractical for a smaller sized business. You could argue that may be the case, since smaller businesses can be micromanaged by the owner. However it is in the owner’s responsibility to know if it’s necessary to rely on their stakeholders’s abilities to contribute to keeping the business running. In the case of a sole operator, who will be the go to person? Make certain they are included in the planning process and part of the plan.
